| BYLAWS |
| The AGC of Ohio bylaws reflect the reasons for
creating the association. These same “aims and purposes,” as stated in the
bylaws, are applicable to the association today, as they were more than 30
years ago. |
|
| Reliability – to make membership in the
Association a reasonable assurance to the public of the Skill, Integrity
and Responsibility of its members. |
| “AGC is the most
professional organization that a firm can belong to for our industry. It
adds a level of professionalism to our firm, and shows our commitment to
the industry.” Timothy E. Beischel, President, R.J. Beischel Building Co. |
| High Standards – to maintain the highest
standards of business conduct in the contracting business and to establish
members of the Association in the public mind as contractors who fulfill
their obligations in good faith. |
| “AGC promotes the
issues that contractors care about and promotes professionalism in the
industry.” David Dietrichson, VP Commercial Lines Manager, Schiff Kreidler-Shell,
Inc. |
| Honorable Dealings – to provide
methods and means whereby members may avail themselves of the greater
power of combined effort through the dealings with the public, which they
serve. |
| “AGC
represents general contractors as a single, coordinated voice regarding
legislation and other matters.” Ronald A. Koetters, Chairman, Monarch
Construction Co. |
| Fair Practices – to seek
correction of the injurious, discriminating or unfair business methods
practiced by or against contractors. |
| “By
presenting a strong, unified voice of the industry to the myriad of
governmental agencies, AGC watches our back so we can keep our focus on
the future without the concern of being derailed by something which we had
no knowledge.” John R. Neyer, Neyer Construction Co. |
| Efficiency and Research – to
encourage economy and efficiency in construction, thereby eliminating
waste and reducing construction costs through research and through
cooperation with other groups carrying on research in construction methods
and materials. |
| “Welty Building Co.
relies very heavily on the research and opinions as researched and
concluded by our industry experts who have carefully studied these
issues.” Donzell S. Taylor, President & CEO, Welty Building Co. |
| Risk Parity – to place the business risks
assumed by contractors as nearly as possible on a parity of the risks
assumed by firms in other production industries. |
| “It (AGC) is a
critical voice in making sure the concerns of contractors across the U.S.
are heard.” Mark R. Graeser, Vice President, Danis Building Construction
Co. |
| Cooperative Relations – to promote cordial
and cooperative relations between contractors and other groups within the
construction industry. |
| “Friendship and
professional relationships of mostly respect can be gained from working
side by side on industry issues with all of our good competition.” Vince
Corrado, President, Shook, Inc. |
| Labor Relations – to foster and promote just
and equitable labor relations. |
| “AGC plays an
important role in negotiating contracts with labor unions.” William P.
Ruch, President, Stanford E. Thal |
| Accident Prevention – to promote safe
construction operations for the protection of construction workmen and the
general public by means of education, accident prevention measures and
cooperation with insurance companies and government agencies concerned
with construction safety. |
| “AGC has been a
useful resource for training in the areas of safety and health. IC’s
safety director has found the Safety & Health Forums very informative. The
weekly Safety & Labor Updates and Congressional Updates provide invaluable
information within the industry.” Marc Lockemer, Industrial Construction
Co. |
| Standard Contract Provisions – in
cooperation with the Ohio AIA and others, to develop fair and equitable
contract forms and documents so that the respective interests of owners,
architects, contractors, other segments of the industry, and the public
may be properly protected. |
| “The various
publications, contract forms and safety information are excellent
resources.” Darrel G. Cox, P.E., Chairman of the Board, The Krill Co. |
| Record and Exchange Information – to provide
for the exchange of information on regulations at the federal, state, and
local levels and for the accumulation and distribution of statistics on
such matters as volume of construction, labor supply, wage rates, etc. |
| “AGC is an excellent
resource for current and accurate information on developments in the
construction industry.” Julie O’Toole, The Bolton Pratt Co. |
| Legislative Activity – to advocate, foster
and promote construction legislation which shall favor the highest aims
and purposes of contractors and which shall be in the public interest, and
to keep members informed on legislation of interest to the construction
industry. |
| “We feel that the
review of proposed legislation and current laws by a large and strong
organization like the AGC is extremely important in that it protects the
construction industry (contractors) far well intentioned by ill-advised
legislation and bureaucratic rule implementation.” Bruce G. Higley,
Executive Vice President, The Higley Co. |
| Public Relations – to conduct a sound public
relations program stressing the role of efficient and economical
construction by responsible contractors in the national, state and local
economies. |
| “We applaud recent
efforts by the AGC of Ohio to promote a higher standard of construction
for the school system by lobbying for best bid criteria. AGC is working
hard to assure Ohio’s taxpayers get the ‘best’ facilities for the money,
not just the ‘cheapest.’” William P. Ruch, President, Stanford E. Thal |
